Handouts: 

An email was sent to you with a link to the handouts the week of September 15 if you were registered; it is in your confirmation email if you registered after that date. Handouts will not be available onsite, however we will have notepads for you. 

Parking and Campus Map:

The event is at Urey Lecture Hall at University of Montana campus, very near Skaggs. Permits are not needed, and parking is free, however, please read signs carefully at each lot for any restrictions in the lot you choose. If you feel like walking, you may park at the overflow parking in the DoubleTree Hotel and walk using the walking bridge adjacent to the hotel.

Provisions: 

Provisions include a light continental breakfast both days including coffee, lunch at the business meeting.

Oxford Debate and Banquet 

The infamous APTA Oxford Debates move to Montana!  Qualified (and lively!) therapists took both the pro and con side of the question (TBA). As in a typical Oxford-style debate, the teams take their panel and offer an argument-rebuttal style presentation, while attendees get to choose which side of the panel they support (this leads to a LOT of moving around, and the PTs and PTAs had some fun ways of doing it!). Banquet and evening entertainment is open to all PTs, PTAs and guests regardless of course attendance. Please sign up online by registering for the conference and clicking Banquet.

Cancellation Policy

MAPTA reserves the right to refuse/cancel an event registration. If MAPTA refuses a registration, registrants will be offered a full refund.

Registration Cancellation by Participant:

• Cancellations will be accepted in writing via fax, email, or mail.
• A $25.00 administration fee will be withheld when cancellation occurs up to ten days prior to the start of the event; 50% refund if cancelled 2-10 days prior; 25% refund if cancelled 0-1 day prior.

Group Discounts:

10% Discount for 3 or more APTA Member PTs/PTAs from one clinic. Fees for all persons must be made with one payment. No exceptions. Credit will not be provided at a later date.

Lifetime Member:

Course description: 

This course provides the participants with advances in examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment strategies and outcomes research for patients with selected shoulder conditions. Various principles of practice of the master clinician, such as clustering of signs and symptoms and using an algorithm-based process will be discussed and demonstrated. The clinical hands-on demonstrations will emphasize an algorithm-based clinical examination for efficient time management in the clinic. The scientific and clinical rationale (evidence-based practice) for rehabilitation strategies and progressions will be discussed. Participants can expect to learn innovative and creative treatment interventions with various shoulder conditions. Case studies will be presented to facilitate effective treatment planning. Suggested treatment protocols and outcome measures will be emphasized throughout the course. Videos of examination and treatment techniques will be presented and discussed throughout the course. This is an interactive active learning course that will provide didactic activities to encourage participants to integrate this information into the development of customized programs to enhance the quality care of their patients. A qualitative and quantitative functional testing algorithm for discharge of patients to return to activities will be presented.

Course Objectives:

 The Course participants will: 

• Describe the process and components of an algorithm-based examination of the shoulder
  
• Evaluate the clusters of signs and symptoms that facilitates selecting appropriate components of the algorithm-based examination of the special tests of the shoulder
  
• Analyze the algorithm-based examination of the special tests of the shoulder
  
• Develop specific rehabilitation strategies for selected shoulder conditions
  
• Discuss the rationale for the progression of rehabilitation techniques
  
• Create innovative treatments using plyometrics, perturbation neuromuscular reactive training techniques, etc.
  
• Compare and contrast treatment techniques and outcomes for selected shoulder conditions
  
• Assess the applications of selected intervention techniques for the shoulder: manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, perturbation training, etc.
  
• Synthesize the qualitative and quantitative functional testing algorithm for discharge of patients to return to activities
  

 

About the Presenter

DR. GEORGE J. DAVIES is an internationally known speaker who has presented hundreds of conferences throughout the world on sports physical therapy, athletic training, shoulder, knee, open and closed kinetic chain topics, orthopaedics, rehabilitation and Isokinetics. George is a clinician, educator, speaker, researcher, author, editor and consultant. 

Dr. Davies has been involved in many research projects that have been presented at numerous national and international conferences and published in various journals. He has participated in hundreds of scientific conferences and workshops throughout the world in the last 40 years. He has published over 200 articles and research abstracts in various periodicals, has written several books and has contributed chapters to over 45 books. George was the original co-founder and co-editor of The Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy for approximately 10 years. To honor George’s achievements, at the 25th anniversary year of JOSPT, the JOSPT, Sports Physical Therapy Section and Orthopaedic Section honored George by creating the GEORGE J. DAVIES – JAMES A. GOULD EXCELLENCE IN CLINICAL INQUIRY AWARD. This award will honor the best article published in JOSPT in the clinical area. He was also one of the original founders and co-editors of the international Journal of Isokinetics and Exercise Science for 5 years. George was also one of the founders and original Associate Editors for Sports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach. This is an official publication of the AOSSM, AMSSM, SPTS-APTA and the NATA and made its debut in January, 2009. 

A former Marine, George also has ran marathons, triathlons including the Ironman,holds a Black Belt in Karate and has been a Sensei (teacher) of Karate for the last several years. He has also achieved the status as a certified Specialist in Martial Arts Conditioning (SMAC) of which there are very few in the United States. However, one of the accomplishments he is most proud of is that he is also a CANCER SURVIVOR and continues to participate in some of the above activities.
