Cancellation Policy

MAPTA reserves the right to refuse/cancel an event registration. If MAPTA refuses a registration, registrants will be offered a full refund.

Registration Cancellation by Participant:

• Cancellations will be accepted in writing via fax, email, or mail.
• A $25.00 administration fee will be withheld when cancellation occurs up to ten days prior to the start of the event; 50% refund if cancelled 2-10 days prior; 25% refund if cancelled 0-1 day prior.

Group Discounts:

10% Discount for 3 or more APTA Member PTs/PTAs from one clinic. Fees for all persons must be made with one payment. No exceptions. Credit will not be provided at a later date.

Lifetime Member:

Lifetime members can take any non-limited seating, MAPTA sponsored CE at 50% discount.

About the course:

Dizziness and Balance Issues in Persons Post Concussion and with mild Traumatic Brain Injury, Sue whitney, DPT, PhD, NCS, ATC, FAPTA

Course Description:

The course will provide an overview of the most recent evidence related to post concussive disorders and brain injury.  The instructors will provide physical therapy case examples of persons with concussion/brain injury presenting with varying degrees of impairment in order to provide the learner with a breadth of exposure to the complexities involved in treating persons post concussion/traumatic brain injury.  All cases will incorporate the latest evidence related to management including diagnosis and intervention.

10:15-12:00—Vestibular and Balance Evaluation (including Lab)

2:00-2:45—The vestibular ocular motor screen and concussion evaluation

About the Instructor

Susan L. Whitney, DPT, PhD, NCS, ATC, FAPTA 

University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh PA, USA.

Dr. Whitney received her professional physical therapy education from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. She received her doctor of physical therapy from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of the Health Professions. Currently, she is an associate professor in physical therapy in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and in the Department of Otolaryngology in the School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh. She is the Program Director of the Centers for Rehab Services (CRS) Vestibular Rehabilitation Center at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Whitney practices physical therapy one day a week for CRS. She currently studies the use of vibrotactile feedback in persons with vestibular dysfunction. She has published over 110 papers that are referenced on Medline and has written over 30 book chapters, primarily in the area of functional balance assessment and vestibular rehabilitation. She has co-wrote a book entitled “Vestibular Disorders: A case study approach to diagnosis and treatment”. She has clinically worked in out-patient and long-term care, acute care, and rehabilitation for the past 30 years. Dr. Whitney is past President of the Neurology Section of the American Physical Therapy Association,  was a member of the BPPV guideline task for of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and the APTA vestibular hypofunction clinical practice guideline.  She is a professor in the Departments of Physical Therapy, Otolaryngology and in Clinical and the Department of Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Pittsburgh.
