Cancellation Policy

MAPTA reserves the right to refuse/cancel an event registration. If MAPTA refuses a registration, registrants will be offered a full refund.

Registration Cancellation by Participant:

  • Cancellations will be accepted in writing via fax, email, or mail.
  • A $25.00 administration fee will be withheld when cancellation occurs up to ten days prior to the start of the event; 50% refund if cancelled 2-10 days prior; 25% refund if cancelled 0-1 day prior.

Group Discounts:

10% Discount for 3 or more APTA Member PTs/PTAs from one clinic. Fees for all persons must be made with one payment. No exceptions. Credit will not be provided at a later date. Combining discounts (ie Lifetime AND Group) is not applicable. About the course:

Cervical Spine: Manual Therapy Management

Course Description: 

This course will cover current best evidence in the physical therapy management of neck pain. Lecture material will summarize the developing body of literature regarding the subgrouping of cervical spine patients. We will present and discuss relevant safety concerns of evidence based treatments with a special emphasis on cervical spine thrust manipulation. The laboratory component will focus on the safe and effective delivery of thrust and non-thrust manipulation to the cervicothoracic spine and supporting mobility and motor control exercises. The didactic portion will comprise 30% of the class with 70% of the time being spent in the lab.

Course Objectives:

  1. Understand the risk factors associated with spinal manipulation and be able to screen patients properly using a thorough history and targeted physical examination
  2. Understand the strengths and limitations of current objective tests for vascular insufficiency in the cervical spine
  3. Perform a thorough objective examination using clinical practice guidelines and current best evidence to determine which data to collect
  4. Demonstrate an excellent understanding of current best evidence in regards to manual therapy, thrust and non-thrust joint mobilization techniques, in the treatment of patients with neck pain.
  5. Demonstrate proper technique with cervical mobilization and thrust manipulation to the cervical and thoracic spine
  6. Demonstrate proper technique with all cervical and thoracic mobility exercises and their home exercise counter parts
  7. Perform upper cervical ligament integrity testing

About the Speaker

DR. JESSICA DAVIS

Dr. Davis has been practicing in outpatient orthopedics since graduating from Duquesne University in 1999. She became board certified in orthopedics in 2002 and received her doctorate in Physical Therapy from Chatham University in 2008. She is received her Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy (FAAOMPT) through the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) in July 2017.

Dr. Davis currently practices as a staff physical therapist in Seven Fields, PA. Prior to joining Tri-State Physical Therapy in Seven Fields, she was the clinical director of an outpatient private practice for 12 years. Her passion is manual therapy for treatment of all orthopedic conditions, especially in the performing arts community.

Dr. Davis maintains various professional memberships, including the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association (PPTA), where she currently serves as an alternate delegate for the House of Delegates. She has also served as the education committee liaison for the PPTA’s southwest District. Additionally, she has also pursued teaching for a variety of continuing education courses offered at Chatham University and with EZ Evidence. She served as the primary provider of physical therapy for the dance department at Slippery Rock University. As a former dancer, she purses excellence in treating performing artists, gymnasts and other athletes
