Course Description:

This course will cover how physical therapy in a skilled nursing facility has changed over the years. In the author’s opinion, PT performed is much more robust than what it used to be. The information presented will cover many different types of programming that is utilized to allow for better quality of life for the short-term and long-term residents and how it can be measured utilizing the Medicare Quality Measure Ratings. It will also look at how much of the population is currently using SNF services for rehab and the
projected population growth in coming years. To conclude the author will discuss some
advantages of working in a skilled nursing facility, and the need for more physical therapists in the setting.

At the end of this course participants will have greater insight into the 

following components of working as a PT in long term care:

About the Speaker

Jen Wintle, PT, DPT earned her undergraduate degree at Oregon State University and her Doctor of PT degree at Pacific University. When entering PT school, she initially thought she
would do outpatient orthopedics, but once in school quickly fell in love with treating neurological disorders. A native Oregonian she graduated from PT school in 2004, and much to her surprise, started working in skilled nursing. She then quickly started traveling as a PT, working in all settings except pediatrics. Jen settled into skilled nursing in 2008 and hasn’t changed since. She works for Eduro Healthcare as Lead Regional Therapy Resource. She met her husband on a travel assignment in Libby, MT, and they now have two daughters and a dog and enjoy all things outdoors together.
