This course will be held in TWO locations:  Feb 1 8-noon, at the hotel. After lunch, we will move to Great Northern Physical Therapy, 1419 N 14th Ave Unit A, Bozeman, MT 59715

Business Meeting

Business meeting and elections will be held at noon on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020 at the CE site. Lunch is included for those registered for the course. Please RSVP if you are not registered (you may register online for this without paying). Please send agenda items to the office or President Christian Appel by January 11, 2020. Final agenda will be posted in the members only section at www.mapta.com by January 22, 2020.

Cancellation Policy

MAPTA reserves the right to refuse/cancel an event registration. If MAPTA refuses a registration, registrants will be offered a full refund.

Registration Cancellation by Participant:

Cancellations will be accepted in writing via email or mail. A $25.00 administration fee will be withheld when cancellation occurs up to ten days prior to the start of the event; 50% refund if cancelled 2-10 days prior; 25% refund if cancelled 0-1 day prior.

Group Discounts:

10% Discount for 3 or more APTA Member PTs/PTAs from one clinic. Fees for all persons must be made with one payment. No exceptions. Credit will not be provided at a later date. Combining discounts (ie Lifetime AND Group) is not applicable. If you need to take advantage of this, call us for a group code to pay online, or mail in your check with participant names.

Student Discounts:

Students may take this course at a rate discounted by 50% of the member and non-member rate, if there is space available prior to the start of the course. This course is a laboratory class with limited space, and therefore we must limit the spaces available at the student rate. If you are a student and would like to attend if we do have extra room for this course, please register for the student waitlist. MAPTA will notify you one week prior to start of the course to offer you a space in the course, if available.

Lifetime Member:

About the course:

Course Description:

Designed for licensed physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and physical therapy students.

This course ensures that you will be comfortable with addressing patients with pelvic girdle and LE dysfunction from both an orthopedic and pelvic floor approach immediately upon returning to the clinic.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of the 2-day course, participants will be able to:

  • Conduct thorough subjective and objective evaluations of a patient with pelvic dysfunction.
  • Identify red flag signs and symptoms in pelvic region, precautions and contraindications for treatment.
  • Assess basic movement dysfunction for neurologic, pelvic health, and orthopedic patient populations and design appropriate evidence-based treatment programs.
  • Perform assessment and treatment of the coccyx and posterior pelvic floor.
  • Perform assessment and treatment of abdominal wall and mobility of bladder, uterus, and rectum.
  • Perform external pelvic floor assessment and treatment.
  • Analyze the role of the pelvic girdle, pelvic floor and visceral mobility in LE dysfunction.
  • Determine patient specific treatment strategies effective for improving functional tasks and gait.

Course Agenda:

Day One:

  • Course will take place from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, with a 15 minute break
  • The course will then resume from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with a 15 minute break, at Great Northern PT, 1419 N. 14th. Ave.

First Day Content will include:

  • The Musculoskeletal Role in Pelvic Pain, Pelvic Floor Dysfunction , Lumbar Dysfunction and LE Dysfunction.Subjective Evaluation Lecture
  • Objective Evaluation Introduction; Objective Evaluation Lab
  • Coccyx Dysfunction Introduction; Coccyx Assessment and Treatment Lab
  • Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Introduction; External Pelvic Floor Assessment and Treatment Lab
  • Sacrum/Innominate Dysfunction; Introduction; Sacrum/Innominate

Day Two:

  • Course will take place from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with an hour lunch and two 15 minute breaks.
  • Depending on weather and presenter and attendee preference, the times may vary slightly, with the same amount of content hours, per consensus during the first day of class.

Second Day Content will include:

  • Visceral Dysfunction (Abdominal and Pelvic) Introduction; Visceral Assessment and Treatment Lab
  • Pelvic Base/ Hip Dysfunction Introduction; Pelvic Base and Hip Assessment and Treatment Lab
  • Functional Tasks and Gait; Determining key regions where treatment will make the greatest impact.

About the Speaker

MICHELLE NESIN, PT, OCS, FCFMT, FAAOMPT

Michelle earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy for the University of South Alabama in 1989. Since graduation she has been working for Nesin Therapy Services in Huntsville, AL where she is co-owner and Chief Operating Officer. She participated in a 6 month post professional fellowship in PNF at Kaiser Vallejo, CA in 1992. She became certified in Functional Manual Therapy™ in 1997 and completed her one year IPA Manual Therapy Fellowship studies with Gregg Johnson, PT, FFCFMT in 2001.

She became a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist in 2006, and completed her second AAOMPT Orthopedic Manual Therapy Fellowship in 2009. She has been teaching for the Institute of Physical Art since 1993 and is a primary instructor in PNF, FM1, Functional Gait and Visceral Functional Manipulation. Michelle has over 29 years of experience in treatment of orthopedic and pelvic health patient populations. She is a member of Women’s Health and Orthopedic Sections of the American Physical Therapy Association, a member of the International Pelvic Pain Society and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapists. Michelle is a co-founder of the Pelvic Education Alliance, which has the goal of bridging the physical therapy orthopedic and pelvic health worlds.
